Family of the Month: Meet the Coalson Family

Aren't they just the cutest?

A little Q&A time with the Coalson family:

Q. Tell us a little about your family.
A. Our names are Aaron and Stephanie Coalson.  We are 24, we've been married for just over 2 years and we're currently living in Wake Forest, NC.  Aaron is in his 2nd semester of seminary, works 2 part time jobs, and I teach a preschool class.  We have a cocker spaniel named Tucker, he's our fur-baby and completely rotten!  We've had him since he was 8 weeks old and he'll be 2 in April.  We love movies and music, and being outdoors.  We are enjoying our time here in Wake Forest, preparing for the next phase of life, which we feel is planting a church somewhere in United States where the Gospel of Jesus is not present.

We are beyond excited to grow our family through the miracle of adoption!  God had been pressing this on our hearts for a while, even before we were married, but we thought it would be after we had biological children.  After much prayer, we felt God leading us to do this NOW, to make it a priority for our family. We are adopting because we have been adopted by the Father. We are not the savior of this child, we are this child's equal, we were the orphan, and just as Christ has redeemed us, he is going to redeem this child.  THAT is why we are adopting, to give our child, and the world, a picture of the Gospel and our redemption.  Because we have been redeemed we cannot help but to love others the way we have been loved and do for them what was done for us.  How can we not? We have been given the ultimate rescue.  We have realized what it means to be adopted as sons and daughters of our great God and we want to live that out.  This is how we are living out the Gospel in our life, and this journey is oh so beautiful.

Q: Why Ethiopia?
A: After narrowing it down, these stats led us to our decision:
  • There are an estimated 5 million orphans in Ethiopia
  • Only 24% of households have access to clean drinking water
  • 1 in 10 children there die before their 1st birthday
  • 1 in 6 die before their 5th birthday
  • Half the children in Ethiopia will never attend school
  • 60% of children in Ethiopia are stunted because of malnutrition
  • 1/3 of the population lives on less than $1 a day
Wow!  They have such sincere hearts and I am excited to observe their adoption journey through their blog, Something Beautiful. Go check it out for more about them.  Want to support them?  This month, 25% of sales from Dulcitas will go to them!  Didn't catch the down-low about the family of the month, read it HERE.
